LakeSmart is a free, statewide, voluntary program encouraging community members to adopt habits that protect lake water quality, wildlife habitat, and property values.
LakeSmart Program at Crystal Lake
NH LAKES LakeSmart is a free, voluntary, non-regulatory program that helps property owners protect New Hampshire's lakes from pollution and erosion. It provides education, on-site evaluations, and recognition for adopting "lake friendly" habits, such as maintaining septic systems, managing stormwater runoff, and preserving shoreline buffers.
Key features of the Program:
Voluntary Evaluation: Evaluators inspect properties (driveways, structures, yards, and shorelines) to identify potential pollution sources.
Educational Focus: Provides actionable, customized advice to homeowners on how to reduce their environmental impact.
Recognition: Property owners who meet standards receive a LakeSmart award, recognizing their role in protecting water quality, wildlife habitat, and property values.
Benefits: Helps reduce toxic cyanobacteria blooms, keeps water clean, and promotes healthy, sustainable lakes.
Last summer/fall Crystal Lake became a LakeSmart Community.
34 properties received LakeSmart property tours.
11 properties are in progress towards their individual LakeSmart Awards.
23 properties earned their LakeSmart Award.
This is VERY impressive as NH LAKES gave out a record 100 LakeSmart Awards statewide in 2025 and 23 of those awards were given to Crystal Lake residents!!!
We are compiling a list now for our first LakeSmart property tour in 2026. We hope that Crystal Lake will receive even more awards in 2026! It would be wonderful for Crystal Lake to receive statewide recognition for lake friendly stewardship..
