Lake News - March
Hi Everyone,
A couple of quick ones for you today...
Election Day
In case you haven't heard... This Tuesday (3/10) is Election Day! The election is being held for several local positions (including Selectboard), the 2026 Town Budget, and numerous other warrant articles. The polls will be open from 8am - 7pm at the Enfield Community Center on Route 4. Let's be sure our collective Lake Voice is well represented at the ballot box! Vote, Vote, Vote!
Interesting Presentation on a Topic Important to Our Lake Health
Have you ever been tempted to poison those pesky little mice or larger rodents that can be prevalent in rural NH? Perhaps you've even gone to the extreme and called in a pest control service. Unfortunately, it can have detrimental effects on our wildlife and is especially risky around our lakes! A very interesting presentation about all of this will take place next weekend called: "What’s all the fuss about rodent control and New Hampshire’s wildlife?" with Carol R. Foss, Ph.D. a Senior Advisor for Science and Policy from New Hampshire Audubon. Come join the Enfield Conservation Commission to learn how some rodent poisons are killing New Hampshire wildlife and pets, and strategies to reduce secondary poisoning. The presentation will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2:00 p.m at the Chosen Vale Performance Center (the left side of Lasalette) 410 NH Route 4A, in Enfield.
Legislative Update
HB1540 - This is the bill that I put the "urgent" request out on 10 days ago. Well the good news is that it worked! Several members of our community got in touch with the House - Housing Committee and voiced their support. (Basically, we were asking that local municipal control of shoreline ADU development be returned.) The good news is that the committee did vote that the amendment "ought to pass" and that the bill go to the full House for a vote. The bad news is that the amendment got watered down a bit. Our State Representative (and bill sponsor) David Fracht, along with other lake-minded representatives and supporters, are now considering next steps. Stay-tuned... we may need your outreach again before this one is finished!
SB559 - This is the senate bill I mentioned about a month ago related to speeding and allowing local police chiefs to have jurisdiction over local road speed limits. Well it came out of the Senate - Transportation Committee successfully with an "ought to pass with amendments" endorsement. Again, nice job of expressing support! It now sits with the House - Transportation Committee. Two important state senators on the Transportation Committee are Chair Thomas Walsh and ViceChair Ted Gorski. A call and/or letter to them expressing your support would be well received!
Other Bills - There are several more important lake-related bills in play. Rather than go through them all here, I would encourage you to click on the NHLAKES tracking sheet which is updated frequently. NH LAKES 2026 Legislative Tracking Matrix External - Google Sheets
